Enviroschools projects

at Greenhithe

- keeping Greenhithe green

Term 4, 2012

Wastecheckers
We have our wastechecking team on the job, checking that our rubbish bins going to landfill are as empty as possible (and not filled with recyclable paper). The best classes for the junior, middle and senior schools win a trophy to keep until the next assembly.

Worm liquid - produced by our Greenhithe school worm farm
One class from the school each term is responsible for feeding and maintaining our worm farm. The worms produce worm liquid, an incredibly smelly but effective tonic for your garden which has been getting some great feedback from our repeat customers....yes, it is available for purchase! Proceeds go towards planting projects at our school.

Worm liquid is full of beneficial nutrients and is especially useful for reducing transplant shock and picking up tired-looking plants. You will be amazed at how green and lush your vegetables will be with a fortnightly dose of  this product.

To order yours, email

katherineb@greenhithe.school.nz

or pop in to Room 12.

Only $4 a litre (very concentrated) and your veggies and flowers will love you for it.
Dilute in water until it looks like very weak tea, and pour over your plants.

Planting project
This term Room 12 joined the wastechecking team to get busy in the new garden by the new Year 2 classrooms. We now have some fruit trees, rainbow silverbeet and lots of bird and pollinator-friendly plants - most of these natives, of course! Watch this space, as there is more to come.
